Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Fan Response

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
