Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
