The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
