The Details Known Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

At least 16 individuals were killed and more than 40 sustained injuries when attackers fired on a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police have called a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, officials have announced the number of fatalities is 16, including one of the alleged attackers. Additionally, 42 injured people were admitted to medical facilities.

The deceased are still awaiting formally identified, but authorities state their ages range between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Reportedly a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends remembered him as ā€œvivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help peopleā€.

ā€œHow is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?ā€ a relative remarked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She described the events before the attack, saying they had been standing together when the gunfire started. ā€œHe moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,ā€ she recalled.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

In a statement, a senior official expressed that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

ā€œThis low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,ā€ the statement read.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was also killed during the attack, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still under care, with several in critical condition. The injured include two officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the gunmen. Hailed as a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the scene as an ā€œhorrific scene,ā€ but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a ā€œstroke of luckā€ he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He told reporters he heard ā€œa large numberā€ of gunshots.

ā€œI thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,ā€ he said. ā€œI’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.ā€
