Meet this Sunday Division Squad Boasting 1,800 Premier League Games

One Greater Manchester club fields an amateur veterans squad with nine former Premier League players in their active squad.

222 Premier League Goals, Three Hundred Twenty-Five International Appearances

Wythenshawe Veterans Over 35s are located in south the city and compete in the Cheshire-based Veterans Division Top Division.

Their squad list this campaign boasts nine former Premier League footballers, with a collective nearly 1,800 top-flight games.

The star-studded squad also boasts 222 top division scores and 325 international appearances.

The squad include Papiss Cisse, who notched thirty-seven goals in 117 games for Newcastle United after signing for them for £9m from German league side SC Freiburg in 2012.

He made his debut for Wythenshawe in their most recent home-field match versus reigning title holders Collegiate Old Boys and netted every one of the six scores in a six-two win - featuring a half-hour opening period triple.

Wythenshawe's roster for this season also includes ex- professionals such as England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Hull City and Burnley winger George Boyd, Everton forward Oumar Niasse, Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa, City duo Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League title victors Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Together, the ex- top-flight players have secured 15 big trophies and moved for combined transfer fees of around £123 million.

Famous Names and International Stars

Ireland began turning out for the team in preseason this season through good mate and present team teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland player then asked additional ex-pros, who all play in a weekly small-sided game, to participate.

Ex- Senegalese forward Niasse, who netted twelve goals in 65 top-flight games for the Toffees and even now attends their matches at Goodison Park, also had his first appearance against the opposition - who are based in the city and use an Everton warm-up gear as their uniform.

"A friend Stephen told me 'join and play, it's good fun'," said the striker.

"After that he informed me we were facing a team from Liverpool and the shock I had when I noticed them wearing Blue shirts - I thought this is strange for me!

"Those spectators who come and watch are pleased and to make a moment if they watch us playing there and to pose us questions - it's really about the pleasure of us getting a place we can play, with structure of course."

Such is the squad depth at the club, Niasse made his debut at full-back.

"That's a little unusual but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go inside - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"The movement is what I'm looking for. It's enjoyable."

'Surreal Experience

In addition to Cisse's 6 scores on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted 8 in three games for the side, while George Boyd scored 5 on his debut match and Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a hat-trick in one match up front.

Wythenshawe are leading of the Premier Tier with 3 wins from 3 and a goal difference of +19.

One opponent, thirty-eight, who plays on the wing for Collegiate OB, faced ex- Wigan full-back Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his young son who Heskey was.

Figueroa has played at 2 global tournaments for Honduras, in addition to featuring in over 200 top-flight games.

"The news was going round like a rumor they had all these former top-flight players," said the player.

"I felt I was a little starstruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's has over 60 England caps.

"Our side held our own for a solid 20 mins but then we had a player sent off and it was hard.

"We really have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mother and sibling on the way home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we are eager for the second match."

We Will Still Take the Title'

The manager manages the Collegiate veterans side, who won the Premier Division title last season, along with his co-manager.

"We scored 1-0 ahead and had a
