Los Angeles Battles Historic Heat Just Days Following Major Winter Storm.

After enduring torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across areas in the city, LA is now grappling with unseasonably warm temperatures for this time of year.

Record-Shattering Temperatures

By Friday afternoon, the temperature reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Los Angeles, according to meteorologists. This breaks the prior high for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established in the previous year.

"Very warm conditions" were noted on NWS charts for the region.

Safety Advisories

The weather service issued a warning that Friday's weather posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance included:

• Keeping well-hydrated.
• Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a hot car.

An Extreme Shift

This sharp rise in temperature arrives just after a powerful storm system that pummeled the state last week. That storm unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, triggering evacuation orders for countless residents.

Tragically, the storm also triggered a deadly avalanche in the Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.

Weekend Outlook

Looking ahead cooler conditions is coming. Readings were expected to decrease to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in central Los Angeles by late Friday.

Other locales that reached 90°F included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to experience the upper eighties.

In the coming days, central Los Angeles can expect temperatures in the eighties, with cooler weather on tap for the following week.
