A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a cultural melody to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it fails to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians featured on Lullaby features a group of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for relief efforts.
Lullaby was produced by a trio of talented individuals. The single blends a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
