Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
