Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
