A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
